Your Support is Needed
Volunteers
What are your areas of interest? How much time do you have available? What skills could be
utilized? Please contact the Community Relations Office at 546-1329 if you would like to
volunteer.
Available Volunteer Opportunities
- Animal Care Volunteers
Dog walking, cat cuddling, cage cleaning, dog grooming etc.
- Foster Families
We require foster families to look after animals until they can find new homes. The
animals
may require special attention while they recover from surgery, or raise a litter. A mother cat and
her kittens or a mother dog and her puppies would be more comfortable in a home setting for a
few weeks. This is a great experience for kids, while teaching them responsibility and pet care.
- Special Events Volunteers
We require people to assist in many activities. These events require outgoing people who are
able to give a firm commitment when they do say yes to helping.
- Fundraising
-telephone solicitation, staffing booths, public relations
- Special Event Planning
-obtaining prizes, selling tickets, event planning, volunteer co-ordination
- Humane Education
-school education, community groups, cat booths, residences for seniors and persons with
special needs.
- Dog Training
-basic obedience training, training classes
- Office Administration
-telephone calls, mailings, computer work, newsletter editing

Financial Support
- Become a member for $10 per year.
- Give a cash donation - we are a charitable organization and rely solely on individual and
corporate donations, legacies and other fundraising activities to carry out our animal protection
work.
- Pet of the Week Sponsorship - advertising animals in our local papers has a 100% adoption
rate! The weekly rate for a photo and short description of a shelter cat or dog is $75.00.
- Give a Gift-in-Kind Donation - often individuals or companies will have products or services
that can be donated in exchange for a charitable receipt. Animal related services or office related
products (such as computers) are an example of gift-in-kind donations.
- Join the Pre-Authorized Chequing Progamme - by making on-going monthly donations
directly through your personal chequing account or through your VISA or MasterCard account,
you can spread your support throughout the year.
- Memorial Donations - a memorial is a personal remembrance that honors the life of a pet,
friend or relative. A memorial gift to the KHS is a meaningful way to express sympathy while
sharing a deep concern for all animals. The KHS will promptly send a sympathy card to the
person you have designated, notifying him or her of your thoughtful donation.
- Planned Giving - by getting involved with our Planned Giving Programme you can consider
the KHS in your estate planning. You can plan today to make a contribution to the KHS that may
qualify you for a substantial tax deduction as well as a lifetime income for you or your loved ones.
For more information our Planned Giving department is available to assist you.
Donations are Tax Deductible. You will receive a Charitable
Donation receipt for your Income Tax Return.
